I do a few self portraits each year and I decided to use my new Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 as a test. Often, I find self portraits quite challenging. I’m more used to being behind the camera so I find it hard to pose naturally as I am usually more worried about composition. Using the Play Memories app does help but I still prefer to be the one photographing someone else.
This was shot using natural light coming from the window in my apartment. The majority of my test shots had been at both 28mm and 70mm, but not in the middle focal range. This was done at 50mm as I wanted to see if there was a drop in image quality or any performance issues in the mid range. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lens was tack sharp and I personally didn’t notice and chromatic aberrations. I would probably still consider the Sony 85mm f/1.8 to be my main portrait lens but for situations that you need something more versatile, this lens won’t disappoint.
