The Family Grows Then Shrinks

Despite making it my goal to control my G.A.S this year, my lens family got a tiny bit bigger last week.

In 2020 I travelled within the state using just the M5 and was pleasantly surprised with how well it performed and didn’t feel limiting. Like most people, if travelling with family photography isn’t my sole focus so I don’t usually have the same dedication to photos as I have when travelling solo.

Because of this I thought I’d try getting a more wide lines for my M50 Mark II for when I travel but things didn’t quite go to plan.

Here are some images I’ve taken with this lens so far.

When it comes to some brief first impressions they are mostly positive. In terms of size and weight it’s not a tiny lens but isn’t too large/heavy.

The autofocus is really good and honestly feels like a native lens. For a wide focal length like this I personally wouldn’t be bothered by slower autofocus but image quality is excellent.

Now here comes the interesting part. Since buying this I’ve realized I only use one camera more than another and the more I fill out the APSC line then less I need my full frame. I do get more enjoyment from my full frame gear and I’m not sure if it’s the R6 but there’s just something more magical about the images it creates.

Because of this I’ve started to sell all my Canon EF-M gear. I was considering swapping to Fuji but the more I think about it the more it makes sense to just wait until Canon make a replacement for the RP and have 2 full frame bodies.

The Usual Casual Shots

As always I’ve been doing my casual shooting while out and about.

The RF 35mm and 50mm lenses have been getting the most use and although I must say I prefer the IQ of the 35mm, the 50mm’s size and weight makes it really convenient to carry around.

Daylight savings now ends this coming weekend and although the weather is forecast for rain, I’m really hoping I can go out and do some cityscapes to celebrate.

I won’t make any promises but I’m hoping if I can shoot regularly enough I’ll be able to do a review on the RF 16mm and RF 100-400mm lenses soon.

A Much Needed Upgrade

I’ve spent so much on camera gear over the years and upgrade my bodies/lenses quite frequently.

One thing I don’t upgrade that frequently (or at least as much as I like) is my PC. That did change today though as after 5 years I have bought an Asus RTX 3070 Ti Strix OC to replace my old GTX 1070.

For photo editing this won’t make too much of a difference but my old GPU has been having trouble playing more recent games so I was really excited to give this a try. I managed to install it today and playing Red Dead Redemption 2 was amazing and smoother than ever.

This post took me a while to make but it’s finally done and hope you enjoyed the images.
