My Mega Gigantic February Update

This month I have quite a few photos to post so far, along with some old ones redone so here we go.

The cover image at the very top of the page is actually from my old Sony Alpha a7III and Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 which I took in 2020. I was going over older images I needed for a post over on TPE and when I noticed how bad my original edit was, I decided it was time to try and redo it so it actually looked nice.

I’m much more happy with how this image looks and the image itself was very easy to edit it using my current knowledge.

My New Camera Bag

Not long after I started photography I got myself a LowePro Compuday 250 which was a very unique bag and has served me well for over 10 years. Sadly it’s really showing its age so it was time to finally replace it with something new.

One feature of that Compuday was a side pocket that was excluding for a camera which I wasn’t able to find in any other bag. Because no other bag offered this, I found the next best thing that I liked which is this Tenba Fulton V2 14L bag which I found because my friend Joey owns one.

Below is the bag shot with my a7V and Viltrox 50mm Air.

I haven’t got to use the bag too much yet as a dedicated camera bag is usually more exclusively for when I travel or go out to shoot cityscapes. When at home in Sydney I tend to use a normal backpack with a camera insert for convenience.

Regardless, I’m happy with the bag and will be interested to see if it holds up for as long as my previous bag had.

The Filter Dilemma

When I first started photography like many I got some cheap filters which ruined my IQ so I stopped using them and never tried again. Recently I was reflecting on how much I baby and protect my gear so it sort of dawned on me why don’t I want to use them still to protect the front element since I protect everything else on my camera gear.

This lead me to look into some and from what I could read, K&F Concept were a great balance between quality and price so I decided to give them a try which you can see below.

I only have 2 right now, one for my 35mm and another for my 50mm but plan to get more eventually. So far, I’ve noticed no loss in IQ which means I’m more than happy to use them and protect my lens.

The Macro Dilemma

Last but not least are a few macro images from me. Recently I’m been considering getting rid of my Macro and swapping to a 70-180mm again but I’m conflicted on if I’ll be missing anything without one.

For me at least, I don’t shoot macro often but when I do need one they’re invaluable and owning both would be ideal although overkill. The three images below are all with the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DN Macro and a7V.

I’ll more than likely write a review for the Sigma 105mm to help me decide but so far I’m leaning towards not keeping one as I just don’t shoot macro enough.

The Final Update

I’m almost done with editing my holiday photos from Japan so I’ll be uploading that in the next few as long as writing up the post doesn’t take too long. I hope you enjoyed this post and take care!
